Halloween Pizza Skulls

These cheesy Pizza Skulls are about to become your new favorite Halloween savory recipe. These tasty pizza pockets are easy to make, completely customizable and a fun dish to serve at a Halloween party or to your kids during the holiday season.

I love celebrating the holidays and Halloween is one of my favorites! Make the whole month of October special by serving fun and spooky dishes like my Halloween Icky Intestines (made from crescent rolls)!

✔️ Cheesy Pizza Skulls

These irresistible pizza skulls or pizza pockets are not only easy to make and fun to eat but also a meal guaranteed to be a hit with family and friends.

Pizza is one of those dishes everyone loves and no one ever complains about. In fact, most people especially kids ask for pizza when given a choice. I know the biggest kid in my life (my husband) was so excited when I served these frightfully delicious pizzas for dinner.

✔️ Skull Baking Pan

To make this recipe, you will need a skull pan aka cakelet skull pan. They are available online on Amazon, Wilton and Kohl’s and in stores like Walmart and Target.

The skull baking pans come in different materials as well. I am not promoting any particular brand; however, I used the Haunted Skull Cakelet Pan.

Prices vary depending on material and brand but they have become so popular that you can get one for as little as $9 at regular price.

✔️ Spooky Halloween Pizza Ingredients

This outrageously spooky (and cute) pizza recipe is totally customizable. My husband wanted to make his stuffed pizza with all the meats while my little one who is vegetarian opted for cheese and olives. When it comes to toppings or fillings, the possibilities are endless!

✔️ Main Stuffed Pizza Ingredients

• Pizza Crust: For convenience, you can use store-bought pizza dough but homemade pizza dough also works.
• Pizza Sauce: I used store-bought pizza sauce. If you have marinara, that works too.
• Mozzarella: Shredded mozzarella for delicious gooeyness!
• Parmesan: Freshly shredded or grated Parmigiano-Reggiano adds lots of flavor.

✔️ Additional Pizza Toppings (or in this case fillings)

• Mini pepperoni
• Cooked sausage
• Cooked chicken
• Spinach
• Olives
• Mushrooms
• Pineapple (yes, it goes on pizza)
• Ham
• Crispy bacon

🔎 How To Make Halloween Pizza

• Grease Baking Pan: Spray the mini skull baking tin with cooking spray.
• Roll and Cut Pizza Crust: Depending on which type of dough you are using, roll, pat, or stretch the dough until it is roughly 1/4″ thick. Cut the dough into 6 rectangles. Don’t worry if they aren’t perfectly shaped or exactly equal in size.
• Place Crust Into Molds: Working with one piece of dough at a time, lay each dough piece into the skull cavity.
• Add Filling: Fill with sauce, mozzarella, a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese and your desired toppings. After adding the toppings, add a little bit of pizza sauce on top before sealing the dough (no more than a tablespoon).
• Seal: Fold the dough over the fillings, pinching the dough together to seal them (like a small pizza pocket). Continue until the 6 pieces have been filled and sealed.
• Chill: Refrigerate the skull pizza tray while you preheat the oven.
• Bake: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the tray from the refrigerator and bake for 16 to 20 minutes or until lightly golden brown (some pre-made doughs may need more or less time).
• Serve: Remove the pizza skulls from the oven and allow it to cool for 5 minutes. Unmold and serve with marinara sauce and chopped parsley or basil (optional).

Makes 6 pizzas

Ingredients

• ▢ 13 to 16 ounces of pre-made pizza dough , (you can get boxed rolled out dough or fresh pizza dough to roll (usually sold in a ball in bags.
• ▢ 3/4 to 1 cup pizza sauce
• ▢ 2 cups shredded mozzarella
• ▢ Parmesan cheese, about 1/4 cup

Choose your favorite toppings:

• ▢ Cooked sausage, about 8 ounces for 6 pizza skulls
• ▢ Mini pepperoni, about 6 ounces for 6 pizza skulls
• ▢ Black olives, sliced
• ▢ Sliced ham, chopped
• ▢ Crumbled crispy bacon
Mini Italian meatballs
• ▢ Cooked corn kernels
• ▢ Baby spinach
Fresh basil

To serve:

• ▢ Marinara sauce for dipping
• ▢ Chopped parsley or basil

Instructions 

1. Spray the mini skull baking tin with cooking spray.
2. Dust the counter lightly with flour to prevent the dough from sticking. Roll, pat, or stretch the dough out until it is roughly 1/4″ thick. Cut the dough into 6 rectangles. Don’t worry if they aren’t perfectly shaped or exactly equal in size.
3. Working with one piece of dough at a time, lay each dough piece into the skull cavity and start filling it with sauce, mozzarella, a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese and your desired toppings. After adding the toppings, add a little bit of pizza sauce on top before sealing the dough (no more than a tablespoon).
4. Fold the dough over the fillings, pinching the dough together to seal them (like a small pizza pocket). Continue until the 6 pieces have been filled and sealed.
5. Refrigerate the skull pizza tray while you preheat the oven.
6. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
7. Remove the tray from the refrigerator and bake for 16 to 20 minutes or until lightly golden brown (some pre-made doughs may need more or less time).
8. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for 5 minutes. Unmold and serve with marinara sauce and chopped parsley or basil (optional).

Notes

• Grease the baking pan thoroughly to prevent the dough from sticking to the pan.
• Be careful not to overfill the pizza pockets as they could open up and spill. Overfilled stuffed pizza takes longer to cook and could potentially get too dark on top while remaining doughy at the bottom.
