Life can get so hectic during the fall months, especially around the holidays. Having a few cocktail recipes that are easy to prepare and are made with simple ingredients is always a plus! Just like with this Lemon Drop Cocktail, you don’t need to have a fully stocked bar at home to enjoy a fabulous cocktail drink anytime! (or after it is noon somewhere).
Sipping on a pretty fall cocktail makes everything feel more festive! This harvest cocktail recipe combines the best the fall has to offer, apples and pumpkin. A combination of apple cider and pumpkin beer makes this the best shandy beer!
What is a Shandy?
Shandy is simply the combination of beer with a non alcoholic drink. Plain lemonade and carbonated drinks like lemon-lime soda seem to be one of the most common shandy mixes.
In Europe, they call this a Lemonade Shandy.
Usually made with a pale ale, a shandy beer can be mixed with any flavored juice. A ratio of 50% beer and 50% juice, soda or lemonade is a good place to start if you are an adventurous mixologist.
Are A Shandy and A Radler The Same?
In my humble opinion yes! Although a radler usually also has some kind of citrus juice like grapefruit juice in the mix. Shandy is a name commonly used in England, while raddler (cyclist in German) is the name mostly used in German and The Netherlands.
I think the most important thing to remember is that not matter how you call it, this beer cocktail is super easy to make and incredibly refreshing!
Harvest Shandy
During the hot summer months beer and beer cocktails are very popular. A refreshing summer shandy always seems to to be a favorite party drink. Since fall is one of my favorite seasons I decided to make the perfect fall beer cocktail!
For this cocktail recipe all you need is spiced apple cider and pumpkin beer. Trust me, if you can pour 2 ingredients in a pitcher, you are set!! As for garnishes, sliced apples and cinnamon sticks make for a pretty presentation!
Fall Shandy Recipe Tips
- This is not a very strong drink. Spike your pumpkin beer apple cocktail by adding a shot of bourbon!
- Try to use organic and unfiltered apple cider, the one you need to shake before drinking (this is not the time to use up the children’s apple juice boxes). Real apple cider has better flavor and body.
