Pie Crust

I can never get pie crust to work but this one did. It was easy and very good.

INGREDIENTS

Flour

Butter

+

Vegetable Shortening

+

Ice Water

+

Egg

First, chill the butter while you mix the other ingredients.

In a large mixing bowl, mix the dry ingredients.

With a pastry cutter or with two forks, cut the fats into smaller pieces.

Add water until the dough starts to come together, then dump it onto a lightly floured surface.

Bring the dough together as if forming a snow ball.

Form a disk, wrap it with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Roll out the dough.

Transfer the pie crust to a pie plate and crimp the edges.

Line the crust with parchment paper, fill the pie with pie weights or dried beans and bake.

Brush the crust with the egg wash, prick the bottom with the tines of a fork and bake again.

Serve and enjoy!

Keep your ingredients cold! Cold fats are important as well as ice water.
