Greek Pastitsio

I tried this recipe because I wanted to make it for my daughter’s birthday. It’s a winner!

Oregano and Fresh Thyme

INGREDIENTS

Canned Crushed Tomatoes

Ground Cinnamon

+

Cayenne Pepper

+

Red Wine and Yogurt

+

Garlic and Onion

+

Ground Beef

+

Half and Half

+

Butter and Flour

+

Cheese and Eggs

+

Nutmeg

+

Pasta

Salt and Black Pepper

Sauté the onions, add the ground beef and cook until not longer pink.

Stir in the wine, add the garlic and seasonings.

Add the crushed tomatoes and season to taste. Simmer stirring occasionally.

Melt the butter, whisk in the flour and cook for about 2 minutes whisking constantly.

Pour the warm half and half into the butter/flour mixture whisking constantly.

Add the nutmeg, salt and ground black pepper to taste.

Stir in ¾ cup of Parmesan cheese.

Add about ½ cup of the meat sauce and mix to combine.

Allow the sauce to cool down, then stir in the eggs, whisking constantly.

Add the yogurt and mix to combine. Set aside.

Mix cooked pasta with the remaining meat sauce.

pour the mixture into a large baking dish.

Spread the béchamel to cover the pasta and sprinkle parmesan cheese.

Bake until golden brown and bubbly.

Serve and enjoy!

Only cook the pasta until just al dente. The pasta will continue to cook while it bakes.
