What makes this Italian Easter Bread or Pane di Pasqua extra special is the addition of a decorated Easter egg. You can color and decorate the egg and make it as unique as you want.

In a mixer, combine the yeast, salt, and sugar.

1

Add the eggs, warmed milk and butter and whisk together.

2

Add 2 cups of flour and knead until the yeasted dough is stiff and slightly sticky.

3

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for a few minutes.

4

Shape the dough into a ball, cover and allow the dough to rest.

5

Divide the dough into 6 pieces. Roll each piece to form a 1-inch wide rope.

6

Taking 2 pieces, braid the rope, pinching the ends together and then loop into a circle.

7

Brush the wreaths with the egg wash.

8

Place a dyed egg in the center of each wreath and top with sprinkles.

9

Bake in a preheated oven until golden brown.

10

Serve and enjoy!

The eggs will cook in the oven but only to medium-boiled consistency. If you want, you can soft boil the eggs in a pot before placing it on the bread.
