French Onion Soup

This was better than a french restaurant that was my go-to when I lived in florida. That onion soup was delicious but this is on another level!

WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS RECIPE?

The sweetness of the soft, caramelized onions enhances the broth giving it a depth of flavor that is impossible to reach any other way.

Ingredients

- Onions

- Gruyere Cheese

- Beef Stock

- White Wine

- Butter

- Flour

- Dry Sherry

- Worcestershire Sauce

- Thyme

In a large pot or Dutch oven, add oil and butter.

1

Add onions, salt and pepper, and cook until caramelized.

2

Add wine and dry sherry and cook until almost all the liquid has evaporated.

3

Add the flour and cook, stirring constantly.

4

Slowly add a cup of broth while stirring constantly.

5

Stir in the broth, bay leaf, thyme and Worcestershire sauce, bring to a boil and then simmer.

6

Bake bread slices until crisp and golden on the edges.

7

Divide the soup among oven-proof soup bowls and top with a piece of toasted bread.

8

Sprinkle generously with Gruyere cheese and broil until melted.

9

Serve and enjoy!

Toasting the bread before topping it with cheese prevents the cheese from sinking like the Titanic, quickly. Also, it adds a bit of crunch to the soup topping.
